A hot work management program can help control or eliminate hot work hazards and risks. Establishing a hot work program involves developing policies and procedures and assigning responsibilities and accountabilities for all aspects of hot work. The goal is to determine where and when hot work is permitted, who authorizes the work to be performed, and how hot work activities are monitored.

Obtaining a hot work permit before performing the work is an important part of any hot work management program. The permit establishes guidelines for areas designated as hot work areas.
